Costa Rican green coffee for Washington and Oregon roasters.
We connect established Costa Rican exporters with independent roasters in the Pacific Northwest. We are early-stage and based in Washington State, and every conversation starts from what each side actually needs.
Roasting in Washington or Oregon?
Send us three numbers: your annual green volume, a target landed price per pound, and the cup profile you want. We will tell you plainly whether Costa Rica fits.

A lot is presented to a roaster only after the exporter confirms it, samples are cupped, the paperwork and freight are checked, and the landed cost is built. Today we hold no inventory and have no lots on offer. We are collecting exporter offer sheets and roaster requirements for the coming harvest. Specialty green coffee is the only category we work in.
For roasters: start with three numbers.
Volume, price and profile tell us enough to say whether a Costa Rican coffee can work for you, and which regions to ask exporters about. Ranges are fine. Sharing them commits you to nothing, and if we cannot find it at your number we will say so.
- Annual green volume in bags or pounds, plus a typical order size if you know it.
- Target landed price in US dollars per pound, and the city where you take delivery.
- Cup profile. Describe it, or name a coffee you buy now and like.

Costa Rica, region by region
A working reference for buyers. Harvest windows and altitudes below are typical ranges that move with weather, farm altitude and the year. Exporters confirm the specifics of every lot.
| Region | Typical altitude | Harvest window |
|---|---|---|
| Guanacaste | 600–1,300 m | Jul to Feb |
| Turrialba | 500–1,400 m | Jul to Mar |
| Brunca | 600–1,700 m | Aug to Feb |
| Orosi | 1,000–1,400 m | Sep to Mar |
| West Valley | 700–1,600 m | Oct to Feb |
| Central Valley | 1,000–1,400 m (most) | Nov to Feb |
| Tarrazú (Los Santos) | 1,200–1,900 m | Nov to Mar |
| Tres Ríos | 1,200–1,650 m | Nov to Mar |
Across the country the main harvest runs roughly from October or November through March. Lower farms tend to pick first and higher farms later. Shipments follow the harvest, generally from late in the year into the following summer.
Grades you will see
- SHB
- Strictly Hard Bean. Coffee from higher farms, where slower ripening gives a denser bean. The altitude cut-off is commonly given as roughly 1,200 to 1,350 m and up; sources differ.
- HB
- Hard Bean. Grown somewhat lower than SHB.
- EP
- European Preparation. A stricter sort for defects and bean size. The exact limits belong in the contract.
Ports of export
- Limón / Moín
- Caribbean coast. Moín is the container terminal next to Puerto Limón.
- Caldera
- Pacific coast, near Puntarenas.
Offer sheets quote FOB at one of these. Which port a shipment uses depends on the exporter, the carrier and the route, and is confirmed per shipment.
Words on an offer sheet
- Beneficio
- The wet or dry mill that processes the coffee.
- Microlote
- A small, separately processed lot, often from one farm or one picking.
- Honey
- Pulped coffee dried with some or all of the fruit mucilage left on. Yellow, red and black honey describe how much.
From offer sheet to a lot you can buy
We do not own farms or hold coffee. Each step below has to clear before a lot is presented, and terms are agreed in writing before anything ships.
Match
Roaster requirements are compared with current exporter offers on profile, volume, timing and price. Clear misfits are dropped early.
Confirm
The exporter confirms the lot exists, the quantity, and that it is free to offer.
Sample
Offer or pre-shipment samples go to the roaster and are cupped against the roaster's profile.
Check
Export registration, FDA requirements, importer of record, documents, freight and customs brokerage are confirmed.
Cost and present
The FOB price is built up to a landed cost. Only then is the lot presented, under one of the arrangements below.
| Arrangement | Who sells to the roaster | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Exporter representation | The exporter, directly. We make the introduction and support the deal. | Roasters who import, or who use an import partner. |
| Commission-based sales | The exporter, with a commission agreed with us in advance and owed only on closed sales. | Both sides wanting a sourcing contact without a middle markup. |
| Buyer-backed back-to-back | Cordillera Coast, after the roaster commits to a qualified lot. Only then do we contract the matching purchase. | Roasters who want a single US counterparty. |
About Cordillera Coast
Cordillera Coast Trading Co. is an early-stage sourcing venture based in Washington State. Costa Rica has a mature specialty export sector with established exporters, mills and quality institutions. Washington and Oregon have a dense community of independent roasters who care where their coffee comes from. We work between the two, in person in Costa Rica for commercial meetings.
We are a trading intermediary. We are not a café, a roaster or a retailer, and we do not own or manage farms.
Coffee only. Fine cacao and cascara are possibilities we may evaluate later. We are not sourcing, quoting or taking orders for them.
